Shetland 2024

From 25th of May 2024 to 4th of June, me and a group of wildlife and nature photographer visited Shetland. We had hoped to see Puffins, diving Gannets, steep cliffs and much more on this beautiful archepelago.

We saw Gannets in several location arround the islands, but in greater numbers on Noss and at Hermaness.

I brought both my Nikon Z8 camera and the Nikon Z50. Even if the Z50 is quite simple compared to the Z8, i manage to take some great shots of landsape and birds with it. I only brought two lenses with me, the Z 400 f4.5 S and the newly aquired Z 24-120 f4 S. The Z50 love both of these lenses, but particularly the 400mm. Autofocus is fast and pictures are very sharp. Even if it don’t have the eye focus for birds, like the Z8, it focuses on birds instantly.

Below: A Puffin outside Sumburgh head lighthouse. It was not that many at the time we where there, but the same could be said about the Puffin population at Hermaness.

Below: The Great skua was present at many location, like Noss and Hermaness, but also at Sumburgh head.

Below: The Fulmars was a new bird for me, even if it might be found just a few hours from where I live on Askøy. They could be found arround the entire coastline of Shetland.

Below: An Arctic tern doint some feather maintenance in the harbor of Lerwick. It was surprising to see which birds could be found in the sea outside Lerwick, Like Guillemot, Black guillemot and more.

Below: Eurasian curlew spotted at Unst. This could be heard in many locations on Shetland, including Sumburgh head, Noss, Unst, Hillswick and St. Ninians. At St. Ninians i stood just a few feed from one in a carpet of blue flowers, camera hanging at my right side. A magic moment, but if flew as I tried to lift the camera.

Below: I did not see much small birds on Shetland. Mostly, it was House sparrow and the Starlings. But at Sumburgh head lighthouse I goot this shot of a Pied flycatcher.

Denmark 2023

Every year since 2014, the mobile home has been our way of going on holiday. Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Netherland, Belgium, Luxemburg, Switzerland and France. During Covid-19 outbreak and the next two summers, we stayed in Norway, exlporing Smøla, Hitra, Frøya, Kristansund, Molde, Ålesund, Runde, Måløy and the coast inbetween, and Telemark. In 2023 the trip went to Denmark. This was the first time in all these years that we spent 3 weeks in Denmark.
